New posts every Monday and Friday mornings!

“So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.”

- 1 Peter 1:14-15

Victory

In our last post, we covered who our true enemy is. As Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, our fight is not against flesh and blood; we aren’t fighting against people, but we live in a fallen world with a real enemy. In 1 John 5, John tells us how we can defeat this evil world.

“For every child of God defeats this evil world by trusting Christ to give the victory. And the ones who win this battle against the world are the ones who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.” (1 John 5:4-5)

How do we defeat this evil world? By our faith and trust in Christ, not our faith and trust in government or “good people.” When the evils of this world invade your life, don’t lash out in fear or anger. Don’t storm the steps of government or put your faith in a politician. Trust Christ to win the victory.

“‘I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.’” (John 16:33)

Our victory is possible because of this: Jesus has already overcome this world so we put our trust and faith in Him. This is why we are the ones who win this battle against the world, because our faith and hope is in Jesus, the Son of God. The victory is already His, and because of His great love for us, we get to share in that victory.

“‘For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!’” (Deuteronomy 20:4)

“But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57)

Hold on to this truth today: when we place our faith and trust in Jesus Christ, we get to partake in His victory over sin, over death, and over this evil world.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
