“So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.”

- 1 Peter 1:14-15

Life Source

Life Source

As Spring starts blooming, my house gets filled with pots and plants. Plants of various kinds are purchased and they are removed from their containers and planted into the ground. If we were to simply remove the plants from the soil, they would die because they are being removed from what keeps them rooted in life.

“Then God said, ‘Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth’; and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. So the evening and the morning were the third day.” (Genesis 3:11-13)

God declared that the earth should bring forth grass, herbs, seeds, trees, and fruit, and it did. What happens when you remove a tree from the soil? It dies.

“Then God said, ‘Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures….’” (Genesis 3:20)

What happens if you remove a fish or other sea creature from the water? It dies.

“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 3:26-27)

So in the earth, plants are produced. In the waters, water-dwelling creatures are produced. In God Himself, from the Holy Trinity, humans were produced. What happens if you separate people from God? We die. Isaiah 59 teaches us that our sins separate us from God. Romans teaches that the consequences of sin is death. When Adam and Eve chose to listen to Satan instead of God, they ushered death into the world as a consequence for their actions. They separated themselves from God when they chose to disobey Him. If you separate a created thing from the source of its life, it will die. God is the source of our lives and our sin separates us from Him. But God built a bridge to fit the gap of this separation in the shape of a cross.

“Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:18-21)

Don’t allow your sin to continually separate you from your source of life. Repent of your sins and turn to God for the Kingdom of heaven is near!

To the glory of the Lord God, whose I am, and whom I serve.
